Choose to be a Happy Glamper with the Wild & Free Collection – Video Tutorial

Hello everyone, this is Yana Smakula sharing another cardmaking video tutorial.

1016yscdhappyglamper-3-1800

Today I’m playing with a new collection of stamps and dies by Debi Adams called Wild and Free. Think about fun tropical leaves, cacti, the desert and all things sunny and warm!

1016yscdhappyglamper-4-1800

I decided to go with a simple, easy to replicate design, for this project. I die cut and also embossed images I wanted to use – cacti, teepee and tropical leaves out of cream colored cardstock. To add color to my die cuts I blended various colors of Distress ink (I’m listing specific colors below and also in my video).

There are many ways to add color to plain white die cuts. You can use watercolors and add a simple wash of color (and I’m sharing a look at the same images colored with watercolors in my video below); you can go fancy with markers or pencils and add beautiful realistic details or you can always die cut images out of patterned paper to begin with.

Guest Blogger: Debi Adams, Wild & Free Birthday Sign

Hello and Happy Tuesday! I’m Debi Adams, an artist and designer for Spellbinders and today I am so thankful and excited to be a guest blogger. I am also happy to showcase part of my new line, “Wild and Free“. As I wrote on my Maker Moments post here last week, this line was influenced by the young and trendy art I see everywhere. You will probably notice, I put a little bit of everything in this next project so you could get a feel for it but really, if you just chose one or two die-sets, you will still be able to create this birthday sign.

Yes, you can make this! I will give you a few tips and tricks, even if you do not have great printing or handwriting.

Let’s get the supplies together first. You will need the following:

Spellbinders® Platinum™ or Platinum 6™ Machine: PL-001 or PE-100

Thoughts-SBS-066 (Stamped Using a White Chalkboard Marker)

Be/So Hex-SDS-031

Tropics-S4-676

Geraniums and Leaves-S4-678

Ruffled Flowers-S5-277

Ruler

A Pre-cut Piece of Blackboard (Found at your Local Hardware store- Mine was cut to 11″ X 14″)

White, Pink and Green Bistro Markers

Metallic Gold Marker

Cardstock of Your Choice

Adhesive

Graphite or Tracing Paper

If you enjoy handwriting or printing, go for it! Make sure you block off specific areas that will be used for additional fun information. I did not provide you with those measurements because this is a custom piece of work. Everyone’s information will be different.

Now if you want to try your hand at this but you aren’t sure that your handwriting will look good, why not try it out first with a watercolor white pencil or you just go directly with the blackboard marker? Remember, you can just wipe it all off and start all over if you don’t like it.

And so for those of you who think there is no way you can do this, here’s the secret. Print out the words and font you like onto paper. Place the paper onto the board and use repositionable tape at the top to secure in place. Lift the paper and insert graphite paper. Put the paper back down and simply trace the words. :). Ok, I know you can do this! Now trace around the image you just wrote using the white chalkboard marker. Easy peasy I say.

As you make your different boxes for information, remember to leave room for your decorative die pieces. Also, take a peek at the top of my board. I used several shades of green for the leaves, actually I even used a tad bit of aqua. Step outside of the box and give it a try. You might be surprised how much you like it!

step4

After you have written everything into the boxes, die-cut your images from cardstock and attach to the board. I even managed to stamp the word “sweet” from the “Thoughts” set using the white marker. Can you see it? It’s near the number 1. You can embellish the Flamingo with a gold pen if you like. I used the white marker to make centers for the pink flowers.

That’s it. How fun is this sign? It doesn’t have to be for a baby or birthday either. Think Bachelorette Party or Retirement Party, really anything. What is your favorite die? Take a peek at the entire “Wild and Free” collection right here and start creating.

XO,

Debi

From the minute I began sketching, I knew I wanted to incorporate some trendy art into my collection. As you may have noticed, flamingos and palm leaves are in…so, there you have it :). Wild and Free-Tropics-S4-676

Celebrate Art Nouveau

Hi. Julia here.

Today I’m sharing a card featuring the new Nouille Decorative Element from Stacey Caron’s Art Nouveau range.

Spellbinders Supplies :

S6-097 Nouille Decorative Element

SDS-020 Flower Bouquet

SDS-007 Fresh Sentiments

SEL-008 Medallion Embossing Folder

PL-001 Spellbinders® Platinum Machine

T-001 Tool ‘n One

T-007 Circle Foam Tip for Tool ‘n One

Other Supplies :

Jet Black Archival Ink Pad, Card – White and Black, Self-Adhesive Pearls, Distress Markers – Wilted Violet, Carved Pumpkin, Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, Shabby Shutters and Bundled Sage, Water Brush, Wilted Violet Distress Ink Pad, 1/16” wide White Satin Ribbon, White Lace Ribbon

Instructions :

1. There are 3 beautiful dies in the Nouille Decorative Element Die Set.

2. Cut #2 and #3 dies together out of White Card. With the card still in the #3 die, for a different effect, use the fine tip of the Wilted Violet Distress Marker and draw around the inside edge of the die. Use the Tool ‘n One to remove the die cut from the die. Weave 1/16” wide White Satin Ribbon through the slits in the frame.

3. Stamp the image from the Flower Bouquet Stamp and Die Set using Jet Black Archival. Colour using Distress Markers. Use a Water Brush to move the colour around.

4. Stamp the sentiment from the Fresh Sentiments Stamp Set using Jet Black Archival. Cut the Flower image out using the corresponding die from the Flower Bouquet Set and cut the sentiment out using the #1 die from the Nouille Decorative Element Die Set. Leaving the sentiment in the die, draw around the inside edge of the die with the fine tip of the Wilted Violet Distress Marker.

5. Trim a piece of White Card to 7” x 5¼”. Emboss using the Medallion Embossing Folder. The card is bigger than the folder so you will need to run it through the Platinum Machine twice. This is easy to do. On the first run through, set the Platinum Cutting Plate away from the edge of the folder so as to not get a line from the edge of the folder. The design of this folder is a repeating pattern so it’s easy to slot a section of the already embossed area back into the folder and run through the Platinum again – it’s safest to secure the card with low tack tape.

6. Edge the embossed area with Wilted Violet Distress Ink using the Circle Tip with the Tool ‘n One. Ink a piece of White Lace Ribbon. Glue the Nouille frame in place.

7. Add the image and the sentiment using 3D Foam.

8. Mat onto a piece of Black Card measuring 7¼” x 5½”. If you wish, add a White Card pierced layer measuring 8” x 6¼”, a Black Card layer measuring 8¼” x 6½” and a final White Card layer measuring 8¾” x 7”. Add some White Self-Adhesive Pearls.

A card that can be easily adapted for many occasions and in many colour ways to suit.

Thanks for stopping by.

Julia.
